Belated 8th Month
w The Boy
28th Oct '06

our 8th month was on the 26th, which was last thursday. but because of my hell week last week, dinner with the boy was postponed till sat. and i was late. again. by 1 hour. -__- sorry!!!
we had dinner at this jap restaurant at the basement of the new cathay cinema place near ps. the food was not bad, quite filling, and not costly! cha soba with cali maki and sushi...yum! the boy's tempura bento set looked yummy too :) we watched death note after that. i'm still reading the 1st book of the death note manga, 5 more to go! it's pretty interesting, just that a better looking cast would definitely have upped the watch factor :( the show ended at 1130, but we couldn't quite resist some dessert since we didn't have any after dinner...and since the B&J outlet there closed at 1am! the short night ended with B&J brownies and coffee & dublin mudslide scoops!!!

sunday was quite exciting. and it started early too...at 5.30am! helped mummy to get ready, esp with tanning her back because latin dancers cant afford to look pasty, that just doesn't bring out the feel of the samba and rhumba and cha-cha. haha. i realised that sally hansen's body tanning spray lasts for a week, so both my palms are waaaaay darker than the rest of my arms and hands now. -__-
the boy came down to support mummy too, thanks dear :) honestly, this was my first time watching such a competition and it is soooo cool!!! really wanna learn and be good at it!
more photos on mummy laterrr.....

do u ever wonder what people are really like when they don't have to bother with their image? when they're alone, by themselves. when they can do stuff being anonymous?
do you ever wonder if this person you know as a friend is any different when he/she is away from friends as compared to when in the company of others? do you think about why there is a discrepancy in behaviour and attitudes, if any?
i do. but i don't know why. more importantly, i don't know why this person can be like that at all! in a wired up society like ours, in this modern day and time, we hear that anything is possible, because technology has transcended so many barriers such that anonymity is a trivial issue in a sense. we hear of unknown others engaging in activities that amuse you, that shock you, that make you wonder the reason behind those acts. and yet, nothing creates a bigger impact than knowing someone who would do that. depending on the circumstances, on history, and on relationships, the implications are....interesting. interestingly positive or not, that's entirely subjective. but disappointment sure isn't something that doesn't pop into your head.
why?

the boy spent quite a bomb on friday's dinner. not entirely because he felt rich haha, but because the restaurant totally ripped us off. Big Time.
ck, yiming, the boy and i went to vivocity for dinner after their lab ended at 6...as expected, the throngs of pple strolling about the new mega mall was insane. even worse was the ~5m long queue outsie sushi tei. we stood in line (just in case the line actually moves fast) while ck and yiming searched for alternatives for their starving stomachs.
we ended up at another jap restaurant shi kuyaki is the name if i didn't remember wrongly. waited quite abit for the table although there were 2 empty tables that were already set;
waited for them to realise that we needed a menu and they only gave us 1;
waited to order;
waited for our ocha;
waited waited for the appetizer;
waited waited waited the sashimi;
waited waited waited waited for the wagyu beef;
waited waited waited waited waited for the rest of the food that never arrived.
so there, service really isn't something to talk about over there. i think the 'highlight' of the dinner were the wagyu beef cuts that strangely seemed to have the dimensions of your middle finger. (if u have a big hand and long fingers, try your pinky instead). Absolutely TINY. and $23 for 5 pieces of that...our jaws nearly dropped when the beef reached our table. regarding the rest of the food that never came, that was only because 1 order was left out, and the other was subsequently cancelled. so that was the $106 dinner. and the boy was still starving.
next up...dessert! i can't ever get tired of seeing dessert haha. haagen daaz was packed as well, so we sat outside which wasn't too bad either. ck had a red bean sahara ice cream blend, yiming a single scoop cookies n cream cone, the boy ordered a brownie and a chocolate fondue. was quite shocked cos that's too much dessert at one go! well, it sure wasn't for him though.
the brownie with ice cream on the top and hot coffee at the bottom was positively amazing. never tried brownie swimming in coffee before. it's good :) the fondue...was quite good too. except that the belgian chocolate stopped melting towards the end and there wasn't any soft gooey thick choco to dip the stff into...nearly couldn't walk after 'dinner' part 2! and he still wanted godiva's chocolate drink! but godiva was done for the night. too bad dear, we'll get it another time ok?

cramming through articles of nanostructure really saturates my head...paper after paper of tensile strength, elastic modulus, interlocking platelets of aragonite and calcium carbonate composition, mineral bridges, mineral island like nanoasperites, positively charged protein polymer adhesive that glues the aragonite platelets together in a hexagonal structure...and how SEM, AFM, electron microscopy and i-dunno-what-other-microscope come into play in examining these structures in at the micro and nano scale....
bleah.
but my part for this paper is still nonexistent, i'm only STILL reading papers and noting down points. no consolidation yet. no organisation of points yet. no paragraphs yet. no 3000 words yet.
oh wait, that applies to my emotions term paper due next week too...save for the fact that i haven' even started reading papers for THAT paper yet.
HELP.
oh again, there's the genbio lab assignment due this friday, i don't even know what questions we have to answer yet.
and there's the biopsyc meeting tonight to discuss our presentation, which i have not found all the answers yet. because we have to submit our questions by friday in preparation for the 20% presentation next wed in class.
is that it?
yes, for now.
i don't even have space to think about the deadlines for the nanoworld project and clinical lab term paper.
oh, and there's all that back-lagged readings for emotions, biopsyc, general bio, and catching up on lectures for nanoworld because evening lectures 2 days in a week are just neither friendly nor conducive for consistent attendance.
brilliant.

every song tells a story.
i'm sure lots of us can connect songs with experiences of our own, whether or not they're memories u smile, frown or even tear at. heard such a song last friday while shopping after class in vivocity. i still remember, it was at esprit.
saying i love you
is not the words i want to hear from you
it's not that i want you
not to say, but if you only knew
how easy it would be to show me how you feel
more than words is all you have to do to make it real
then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
cos i'd already know
what would you do if my heart was torn in two
more than words to show you feel
that your love for me is real
what would you say if i took those words away
then you couldn't make things new
just by saying i love you
now i've tried to talk to you and make you understand
all you have to do is close your eyes
and just reach out your hands and touch me
hold me close don't ever let me go
more than words is all i ever needed you to show
then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
cos i'd already know

been eating quite abit of yummy stuff lately...how did it end up like that?!?! what happened to not eating so much....?! haha.
Sat 7th oct
met the boy for lunch in town..i was late again. as usual. sorry!! found him at the library. initially he wanted dim sum at dong hai, which unfortunately, has yet to reopen for business due to renovation or something like that..don't worry dear, u'll get to eat it very soon! so we settled for thai food at this thai restaurant opposite cocoa at taka. i forgot the name of the place -_- what lured us (or him rather) was their mini thai dessert buffet (or thai dessert mini buffet...? this makes it easier to draw the 'tree' haha). quite yummy i would say...the rainbow-kueh (otherwise known to most people as jiu ceng gao), coconut-waterchestnut kueh, coconut-kaya kueh, tapioca...and a bunch of other stuff that i don't know how to describe. thanks dear for lunch :)
wandered around kino abit after that. somehow when we're in town, we always end up at kino...for your comics!!! haha. checked out a book on san fran since that's where berkeley is (and this is assuming that i really do get to spend 1 sem in UCB...), but somehow i just didn't feel all that excited about going over to the US again. maybe it's cos i've been to sanfran and some of the places around it, but still.....when am i not elated over travelling out of singapore? NEVER! what's wrong this time? :( the boy had to leave soon after lunch cos he was scheduled for work at 6pm...i did sthg weird when i got home that evening..i went jogging. yup on sat evening when the psi index was sky-rocketing at around 100 units, no thanks to the effects of the weather on our neighbours' forests.
Mon 9th oct
the boy had to pick up his cheque at dreamforest pdtns around selegie area, so we decided to meet at ps, pick up his long-overdue payment, and head off for lunch at the jap place beside manhattan fish market. lunch there was good as usual, it's my 2nd time there! had healthy soupy udon with mushrooms, egg and tofu and he had his usual udon-soup-thingy. forgot the name again. for $6 u get noodles, a handroll, green tea and dessert...that's pretty decent!
what good timing chee keong had....just as we were done picking out whatever groceries we wanted from carrefour, he called to ask if we could eat out cos he was so severely sick of hall dinners! good timing....because we were just about to pay. so there, we had to return all the juice and wine back to the shelves and wait for ck and sha at mos where both of us attempted to read notes and stuff, all the while freezing our butts off in the pseudo-sub-zero fastfood place. sha was a challenge to contact...she received 14 missed calls from us before we finally got to talk to her! haha!!
so dinner was at thai express. decided to get the ultra spicy phad thai noodles...it has 3 chilli padi symbols next to it! didn't think much of it when the plate of noodles sat in front of me...the boy kept saying that it resembled some noodles from malaysia. but after mixing in the chilli powder and whatnot...whoa! it was really quite hot...nearly felt steam from my burning lips. haha, so much for trying out the chilli stuff, my tongue was kinda numb the whole meal actually...
Tue 10th oct
had an impromptu meet up with the band girls at holland v for dinner. it was tuesday so naturally...we headed to gelare's! hadn't had that for soooo long i can't even recall the last time! although it was last minute and we didn't hang out for long...i enjoyed seeing u girls again! but then, since when have i not had fun meeting up with u all?! haha. never lor.....

satisfied my craving for hokkien mee last friday when i met ivan for dinner at chomp chomp!! it was kinda a last minute thing, but it was really great meeting up ivy!!! yup, for the 1st time at chomps, there wasn't alot of food. ordered i mean. we only had 1 hokkien mee, 1 char kway teow, and 1 stingray..which was yummy :) oh and how can i forget, that Huuuge
jug mug of lime juice! although $2.50 for a drink at a hawker is relatively steep, this was quite worth it, i feel.
i was full to the brim, but after walking a coupla rounds around the shops and cafes at gardens, we succumbed to the lure of Gelato! interesting flavours we had..honey & clover and cookies & cream. ok make that 1 interesting flavour -_- it's been a while since we've talked like that huh, ivy? haha. enjoyed myself though :)

Chilling out at The Balcony with
Reina Lionel Joey Marcus ShaoSheng Britmand Ambrose Nick Esmond
8th Oct Sunday night
reina lionel & marcus with their 1-for-1 beers // ss brit & nick // joey & i --taken in the ladies haha // lionel guzzling his beer with marcus & ambrose in the background // nick & i
sunday night nick organised a gathering for the cedarpoint (thereafter referred to as CP) people. the initial plan was to go ktv-ing...knowing how nick is such a ktv fan haha. the weirdest thing is that all the above people agreed to the outing but when sunday evening came when we all met up in town, half of them decided to go have dinner and hang out somewhere while the other half (nick brit and SS) wanted to go sing! oh well, it's rare that something is organised and since 10 of us were already in town, the singing crew decided to just go along with the rest and forego the singing part.....we can do that another time!
yup, so dinner was at pepper lunch, haha, dinner at lunch. erm...ok anyway, it was fun meeting up as usual, cos i hadn't seen most of them since the last durian party we had at esmond's place, and i hadn't seen nick since the 1st gathering we had that was 4 days after we returned back to singapore. that's quite a long while seriously.....chilling out after dinnner was at The Balcony at the heeren.
initially, 9 of us (minus joey) were seated around the jacuzzi in the open air area. how difficult it was to talk! not to mention how u had to talk loud enough to be heard over the music and noise and bubbling water in the tub. haha. they finally moved us over to the huge white bed with the huge cushions. no, most certainly 10 of us couldn't squeeze onto that huge white bed, so poor ambrose, britmand and esmond had to sit out of the bed. oops. almost everyone had the 1-for-1 beers (yes even reina!! and she can drink more than lionel!). almost everyone but me. i settled for sparkling.....ginger ale hahaha cos i didn't want to start turning and have my head pumping like mad. that always happens when i drink, such embarrassingly low alcohol tolerance i say.
ss and esm drove all of us down to newton for supper. for most of them, supper was just 1 chicken wing (and drumstick). only reina had 2 chicken wings (and drumsticks) and marcus and esmond shared a stingray. it was funny to see how ambrose was so worried about the cleanliness state of his Juice magazine cos reina and i were passing it around reading it haha. when we were leaving, esmond so kindly offered to drive home as many of us as his car could take....so that's marcus (bishan), me (thomson), ambrose (yishun), nick (yew tee) and reina (bukit timah). thanks esmond for the ride home!!!!
on a sidenote, joey told me new news...that 2 of our friends are attached....to each other! i was kinda shocked actually..not that i didn't see it coming because there definitely were hints along the way, but i guess it was more of a natural unconscious reaction given the circumstances...and most importantly, the person involved. but after the inital shock, i'm genuinely happy for both of them because i'm really glad that he's found a girl as sweet, easy going, bubbly, lovable and fun as her :)
Happy 23rd Birthday to the Boy
&
our 7th Month dinner!!
26th September
the boy when he first saw his bday cake in his room // the half-eaten cheesecake // him finishing up the cake // us @ Hog's Breath at Chijmes for dinner // his bday cake - homebaked cheesecake...by me! // the boy with his Natural Prime Rib steak // my Blackened Prime Rib it was 300g of yummilicious stuff! // mississippi mudcake // THE cheesecake
baked the boy a cheesecake. oh wait that's a lil wrong. i didn't bake it, cos the last time i baked an oreo cheesecake it tasted burnt -_- so this time, i chose a cheesecake that didn't need to be baked, just refrigerated. except......that i think it wasn't in the fridge long enough. either that or something was wrong with the ingredients ( i think it's the whipped cream, honestly). because after it was out of the fridge for a little while, it started getting soft...way too soft, till it became yogurt texture. so when he ate it, it was actually cheese-yogurt he was having, not the intended cheese-cake. oops my bad! but 1st time trying out this kind of stuff leh.....
we had dinner at hog's breath at chijmes..interesting place, i kinda like it actually. the steak was succulent and yummy but i think the portion was just enormous! top that off with the mudcake....and oh boy, could we barely walk out of the laid-back australian cafe! caught John Tucker must Die at marina square after that, much to the boy's bewilderment (because it's a chick flick and guys don't usually wanna watch such shows, do they?!) haha. but thanks dear for watching it with me!!!
got him a dkny black leather strapped watch for his 23rd. the hours may be ticking away as the seconds go by, but don't keep feeling like u're getting too old!!! u're only 23!

my back hurts....my lower back hurts. because fell on the stairs!
ouch!
slipped on one of the steps on the way down the flight when moving from the 4th floor to the 3rd floor of block e. and ended up sitting on the bottom step! which means that my foot slipped, i lose my balance, and my butt hit the first step....and the 2nd step.....and the 3rd step.....and the 4th step.....which was really painful.
initial reaction was just to sit there on the step and stone for a while, while waiting for the pain to set in. and then the pain was so sharp that all i could manage at that time was to say ouch and laugh..haha.

it feels strained. u probably will not want to read anything like this coming from me. but it is. i can feel it and i know you can too. i know what is going through your mind after u've read the 1st few lines so far...that somebody is not trying hard enough. either that, or somebody is doing for the sake of doing, not because of the desire to do it. sigh.
beg your pardon for ignorance on our part for not knowing that the shuttle bus runs of the same term schedule, even during the mid sem break. pardon again for not asking to clarify and merely assuming. pardon yet again for not wanting to take the bus and prefering to walk up multiple flights of stairs although walking and the bus ride might have taken the same amount of time. pardon me for borrowing the vcds from my aunt because i couldn't remember the title of the korean show that you downloaded over the hols. and lastly, pardon our friend for coming to school to visit us because if not there would not have been the whole bus-issue and you would not have hung up on me.
it's not as if i never told you during the week that i'll be going home on thursday night because i have to visit a dementia home on friday morning at 9am at toa payoh, and it'll be more convenient to travel to toapayoh from thomson instead of heng mui keng. but you just didn't remember. i didn't mean to give you the attitude like that in the evening when bing and sha were around, that's why i called you thereafter at 8pm. but your tone over the line...is it so hard to say "bye"? or is it easier to hang up?
and...
marshmellows can be kept.

erin 12:37 AM
been kinda lazy to post up anything for a long time. guess it was the case of not having any mood to type stuff...and not wanting to post up alot of feelings. so there.
vicky and i were supposed to the so-called 'open house' at en-motion dance studio today, to check out what they had to offer and sign up for any courses since there'll be a 20% discount only for today. it was disappointing though because the studio was reallly tiny, seems to be the size of my room at home..that's too small to move around comfortably! and to think that we walked from tanjong pagar mrt all the way there :(
since we were already out, our lazy bones didn't want to come out again just to take a look at the other schools, so we decided to check out the other schools after the tg pagar school. next stop-->a n j studio at chinatown point. on the way there vicky brought me up to her gym fitness first at raffles place...i love the pool esp the way it looks over shenton way!! abit scary though -_- weirdly enough, there was an oldies-chinese songs contest at chinatown point where lots of seniors were belting out really old chinese pieces that made goosebumps appear on our arms. we were quite freaked out by that honestly haha!
after a n j, it was actfa in chinatown. it's actually the same place as xenbar that salsa club that conducts lessons. complicated payment system for that school honestly. and they have like 10 levels for intermediate level salsa. omg. are they insane. that's too many! after checking out 3 schools and walking alot alot alot, my dear cousin was becoming incoherent from the lack of glucose haha, so we dropped by macs and the traditional dessert place opp macs too. disappointed again because they didnt have the black sesame paste that i wanted. peanut paste was out also. so i could only settle for walnut paste. i think i shall stick to zi ma hu. their mango sago thingy is pretty yummy though, and refreshing on a humid day like TOday.
made our way to millenia walk after lunch..to check out jitterbugs. the studios are huge..i like! but the receptionist was really horrible. horribly rude. his attitude totally stinks! both of us were so pissed off with that fair-spiky-haired-specky guy with an arrogant attitude to boot. unfortunately, after looking through the various schedules of the schools that we visited today, only jitterbugs seems to be suitable. argh.
finally tried the hong kong cafe today! we went to the one at marina square. both of us had their famous thick sliced toast. ms victoria took french toast which was yummilicious and i had the toast with condensed milk and peanut butter which wasn't as yummy :( but i satisfied my craving for the hk-style yuen-yang drink (if that's what it's called)!!
called the boy on the way home from city hall. his parents just gave him a lift back to hall...we didn't really talk much, or at least he didn't. told him stuff that happened today. but all he said during the whole conversation was "ok", "ok", "ok" and "uh-huh". erm....alright if that's all you have to say.
